Special Events

From black tie galas to golf tournaments to trivia nights, Canterbury School takes great pride in our traditions and annual events. Meant to bring together parents, alumni, teachers and friends, we hope you will join us for many of the events throughout the year and years to come!

Canterbury School’s Laughing Cavalier is our largest fundraiser! The night includes cocktails and dinner, silent and live auctions, and an after party with music and dancing. All proceeds from Laughing Cavalier benefit Canterbury School in three ways:

  • Student Financial Aid – Canterbury's tuition assistance programs are intended to maintain an economically diverse student body and to provide opportunities to students who might not otherwise be able to afford a Canterbury education.
  • Faculty Development and Advancement – Throughout the years, Canterbury School established nine department chairs in major academic disciplines, including a fully endowed mathematics chair, thanks to funds raised at Laughing Cavalier. Funds and endowments also support faculty professional development through technology and summer programs.
  • Capital Programs – The Capital Programs endowment ensures our facilities receive ongoing maintenance, relieving pressure on annual tuition. Additional capital expenditures focusing on education priorities are made through the operating budget.

Hosted by the Canterbury School Alumni Association, this fun-filled event brings together alumni, parents, faculty, and friends who are 21-years-young and up. Teams of 10 people will compete for fun prizes and bragging rights as the celebrate their “fun facts” knowledge!

Bring your own appetizers and food to share, and we'll provide complimentary water and pop, as well as a cash bar. All funds raised support the various academic, fine arts and sports programs at Canterbury School.

Our Cavalier Open Golf Tournament supports major purchases for the athletic department, and it helps underwrite training and professional development opportunities for our coaches. The event has funded scoreboards, scoring tables and sound systems for the High School and Middle School gyms, padding under the baskets, soccer goals and more.

The tournament offers you the opportunity to invite colleagues, friends and family for a fun filled day of golf while supporting a great facility project for the Canterbury School community.

Established in 2016 to honor retired Headmaster Jonathan Hancock, this series was created to feature speakers on a variety of topics to provide insight and inspiration to our community.
