Summer Programs

Are you ready for summer?

Your child can be an artist, athlete and scholar during Camp Canterbury! These summer programs are designed for children ages 2 through 5-years-old, and Grades Kindergarten through 8. Click the accordion links below for more information about camp options, and to register online.

You can pay by credit card (preferred) or check. Payments by credit card are due immediately upon registration, and payments by check are due within one week of submitting the online form. Camp payments are non-refundable.

CAMP CANTERBURY, AGE 2

Camp Canterbury
Age 2 (as of June 1, 2018)

At Camp Canterbury, your 2-year-old will be introduced to engaging and fun themes through outdoor exploration, classroom experiences, guided play, circle time stories and songs, art projects and movement.

Kaleidoscope World provides a warm and welcoming first school experience for your young learner. Each child’s vocabulary and social development will be fostered through hands-on, interactive learning among peers.

Canterbury Camp Options
Age 3 (as of June 1, 2018)

Canterbury School offers a variety of programs for 3-year-old children, including Camp Canterbury, Yoga, and Music. Program times are seamless, so you can register your 3-year-old for Camp Canterbury and either Yoga or Music. Our staffers will escort your child from camp to camp, so he or she is never alone.


Camp Canterbury

Begin the day with Camp Canterbury. This summer experience taps into children’s sense of wonder and provides exciting daily discoveries. Children will learn from indoor and outdoor activities, including nature studies, games and play, art, music and story time.

Mad Scientist!

Who says getting messy and creative can’t have a purpose? Your little one will have fun getting messy creating silly concoctions while learning to work with peers. Campers will experience the world of science through literature, hands-on experiences and art. Join us in our laboratory as we mix up some summer fun!

The Sky’s the Limit!

What makes a bird fly? What about an airplane? Fasten your seat belts and place your trays in an upright position as we explore the world of flight. If it flies, we will explore it! Stories, art and hands-on activities will help your child lift off and explore the wild blue yonder. How high will our curiosity take us?


Yoga

Do you love the serenity and calmness that yoga brings to your life? Now your child can experience the same feelings. Certified Child Yoga Instructor Shelle Pabla will share yoga and mindfulness techniques with campers. Yoga games, free imaginative play, meditation and peace time are all part of the fun.


Music

Clap, clap, boom, boom, clap! Join Mrs. Reeves, our resident music expert and Philharmonic extraordinaire, as she shares her love of music with your child. Campers will wiggle and jiggle to music they create using instruments and their bodies.


Extend the Fun

Are your young campers having fun during the first half of the day and wish the day was longer? Now they can experience a day like the big kids do! Join our fun and creative staff as they explore literature, free play and hands-on activities. The learning never ends...

CAMP CANTERBURY + MORE, AGE 4

Canterbury Camp Options
Age 4 (as of June 1, 2018)

Canterbury offers three program options for 4-year-old children, including Camp Canterbury, Yoga, Soccer and Music. Program times are seamless. This means you can register your child for Camp Canterbury, and he or she can continue on to Yoga, Soccer or Music. Our staffers will escort your child to the next camp program. Story Time (a 30-minute program) is also offered.


Camp Canterbury

During Camp Canterbury, 4-year-old children will engage in experimentation, observation and discovery through outdoor activities, creative play, art projects, and circle-time stories and songs.

Ker-splosh!

Your 4 year old will love splashing through this fun camp that is all about water. Get ready to learn about animals that live in water, buoyancy and flotation, and evaporation and condensation, all while having fun and yes, getting wet!

Embark on a Journey!

Take off to another geographical location to explore! Four-year-old campers will discover what they need to survive at this “location” and learn about the environment, culture, habitat, animals and climate. They will engage in creative activities which depict the camp’s destination.


Yoga

Directed by Canterbury School’s professional coaching staff, the Junior Camp is predominantly cooperative in approach. Each session ends with a small competitive game and a cool treat. Cost includes a camp T-shirt and custom Canterbury soccer ball.

To Infinity and Beyond!

What’s the biggest thing in the world? What’s the smallest? From bugs to planets, your child will investigate and explore the abundant variety of size and nature of things in the world around us - all awhile grasping new concepts and learning skills through investigative play.

Adventures in Story Telling

Does your child love to tell stories, play outside and have picnics? Magic will be in the air as these young storytellers open their imaginations and discover the wonders of the natural world around them. Art, character role play and outdoor exploration will help inspire every child to find a fantasy world and make-believe characters behind every leaf.

Canterbury Camps
Grades 1-4 (as of 2018-19 school year)

Canterbury offers your child the opportunity to be an Artist, Athlete, and Scholar during camp each session. Camp offerings include Camp Canterbury, Junior Soccer, Wide World of Sports, Sports Extravaganza, DramaRama, School of Rock and Visual Art. Camp offerings are seamless so your child can sign up for Camp Canterbury and continue on to a sport camp and then to an art camp. Our staffers will escort your child to the next camp program.


Camp Canterbury, Grades 1-2

During each Camp Canterbury session, children will experience science, math, reading, social studies, and creative arts components.

Under Construction

Have you ever wondered how a skyscraper can stand so tall without falling? How can a bridge hold an incredible amount of weight? Join us as we explore architecture and engineering through the use of giant blocks, LEGOS and other building materials. During this week-long camp we will explore engineering and construction through literature, hands-on activities and cooperative learning activities. Let’s start building!

It's a Jungle Out There!

Chirp! Roar! Animals come in all shapes and sizes and can be found all over the world. From the icebergs of the Arctic to the deserts of Africa, animals are everywhere. Join us as we explore the world of animals and their habitats. Get ready for a wild time.


Camp Canterbury, Grades 3-4

During each Camp Canterbury session, children will experience science, math, reading, social studies, and creative arts components.

Harry's Magical Mystery Tour

Who says you have to leave the building to have a mysterious adventure? Join your favorite magical characters of Harry Potter and his friends as you explore the magic and mystery of literature, art and science.

Survivor

Last year you had what it took to race around the world in search of treasure. This year do you have what it takes to be a survivor? Join us for this fun filled week full of physical and mental challenges, outdoor adventures, cooperative games and team building activities. Do you have what it takes to be the “Ultimate Survivor?”


Sports Camps

Junior Soccer

For "future stars," this curriculum is directed to players who are in Grades 1-4. This camp blends active movements with soccer concepts to create a fun and exciting experience. Directed by Canterbury School’s professional coaching staff, the Junior Camp is predominantly cooperative in approach. Each session ends with a small competitive game and a cool treat. Cost includes a camp T-shirt and custom Canterbury soccer ball.


Sports Extravaganza

Who says school can’t be all fun and games? Join us as we have an action-packed week full of your favorite games. Classic playground games like Dodgeball, Steal the Bacon and Capture the Flag will keep your heart pumping. Think outside the box as you experience new and exciting games with friends!


Wide World of Sports

Do you love to compete? Be part of a team? Love to learn new games? If you answered yes to any of these questions, this is the camp for you! Join us as you develop good sportsmanship and teamwork through games such as basketball, kickball and Gaga. Athletes will learn the rules and strategies of each game along with life long skills such as teamwork and good sportsmanship.


Arts Camps

School of Rock

Have your ever dreamed of being a rock star? Join School of Rock instructors as you learn music concepts in a fun and engaging environment through a variety of methods.


DramaRama

Curtain call for campers with imagination! This week of play, pantomine and improvisation will be a lot of fun. Actors and actresses will create their own characters, write and act out original stories and invent commercials. Jeanne Imler, Youth Theater and Canterbury Drama Teacher, invites parents to attend the special command performance at the end of the week.


Visual Art

Art is all around us! It’s in nature, literature and on our walls and refrigerators! Join our resident favorite artist, Christy Myers, as she opens campers' eyes to the world of art that surrounds them daily. Mediums such as clay, paint and pastels will be used to guide students through the creative process.

SUMMER CAMP, GRADES 5-8

The Pen is Mightier Than the Sword

Calling all writers! Are you ready to take your writing to the next level? The world of writing is endless. Come and stretch your imagination as you dive into worlds of poetry, short stories, plays, and graphic novels. Collaborate with other writers to take your writing to places you did not think imaginable.

Glass Break

Campers will explore the qualities of glass and create one of a kind pieces. Campers will create a stained glass piece of their own design and 2-3 smaller pieces. These items could range from coasters to bowls to window decorations. During the class, campers will learn glass safety and explore a variety of techniques used in creating glass.

Broadway Comes to Canterbury!

Join us for a week of production and performance as the Canterbury Players create their own story lines to be presented on the big stage. Actors and actresses create, write and star in their own productions. Campers will learn various theatre techniques from local artists including movement, mask work, funny Shakespearean monologues, musicals, and MORE! This is the perfect camp for anyone wanting to come out of their shell and explore their inner Broadway star.


Totally Tie Dye

During this class, campers will explore a variety of tie-dye techniques, including batik. Campers will make their own tie-dye socks, shirt and pillow case. This will be messy class, so please dress appropriately!


Film Making

Lights! Camera! Action! We all know plenty of great stories, but what makes a story a great movie? Join Mr. King as he explores the fundamentals of film making, including screenwriting, directing, shooting and editing. You too can make movie magic this summer!

Survival Through the Ages

Have you ever wondered what life was really like during the Middle Ages? How about when the world first began? Learn about different time periods and what life was like during these times. How did people adapt and survive to their surroundings? Through literature, science and hands-on activities, experience life during a variety of time periods and then ask yourself, would you have been a survivor?

Beyond the Bridge

How would you save an egg from a nasty fall? What's the best way to collect rainwater? Beyond the Bridge is camp packed full of creativity, innovation, and collaboration, and is perfect for campers who want to explore how things work! Campers will work on design challenges that inspire teamwork. Imagination and ingenuity go hand in hand as kids have fun problem-solving using their hands and a variety of materials. This is a wonderful and fun application of STEM Learning, teaching students Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math in a different, interactive setting!


A 3-Hour Tour?

Join us for a fun filled week of adventure. Campers will experience hiking, boating, swimming and other activities throughout the week. Each day will be a mystery adventure! Campers will only know what supplies they need to experience the adventure of the day. Where will they go? What will they do? Join us to find out!

CHESS CAMP, GRADES K-12

Chess Camp

Beginner to Intermediate

Intermediate to Advanced

Do you want to learn to play chess? Do you want to improve your game? Choose chess this summer! Lead instructor FIDE Master Jim Dean is a four-time Indiana State chess champion and the coach of Canterbury’s award-winning chess club. All aspects of the game will be covered, including tactics, strategies, piece and rule fundamentals, openings and middle-and end game theories. Equipment and snacks will be provided. Learn from the best this summer!

SPORT CAMPS, AGES 4-14

All Day Soccer Camp

Ages 8-14 (as of June 1, 2018)

For boys and girls ages 8-14 (as of June 1, 2018), this camp curriculum offers challenging activities structured to be appropriate for the beginner as well as the more advanced player. Including games designed to develop soccer skills, tactics and strategies, this camp day keeps campers engaged throughout and ends with several competitions to challenge individuals and teams to succeed.

Pack a lunch and bring a water bottle. Gym shoes are needed for all campers (no cleats indoors). Campers may also bring soccer cleats and shin guards.


Junior Soccer Camp

Ages 4-7 (as of June 1, 2018)

For “future stars” ages 4-7 (as of June 1, 2018), this curriculum is directed to players who are just beginning to fuel their passion for soccer. This camp blends active movements with soccer concepts to create a fun and exciting experience. Staffed by Canterbury School’s professional coaching staff, the Junior Camp is predominately cooperative in approach. Each session ends with a small competitive game and a cool treat.


Canterbury Elite
All Day Basketball Camp

Boys/Girls, Grades 7-8 (as of 2018-19 school year)

Join Coach Chase, the varsity assistant basketball coach at Canterbury High School and founder of Total Package Elite AAU program, for an intense four days of work. Over the course of the four days, players will work on all aspects of the game. They will not only improve court skills but also their basketball knowledge and IQ as well.

Concepts and drill work covered:

  • Dribbling and Ball Handling
  • Passing
  • Shooting
  • Reading Screens
  • Ball Screen Reads
  • Individual Moves
  • Spacing and Movement

Each day players will be able to test out the skills they acquire in live competition in various formats including small sided games as well as full court 5v5. Players will receive a Canterbury Elite Camp Nike Dri Fit shirt at end of Camp.


Tennis Camp

Boys/Girls, Grades 3-5 (as of 2018-19 school year)

Boys/Girls, Grades 6-8 (as of 2018-19 school year)

Jerry Gerig, USPTA tennis professional and Hall of Fame coach, is the director of Canterbury’s tennis program, which is held on the high school campus. Before coming to Canterbury 20 years ago, Jerry taught tennis at Fort Wayne Country Club for several years. Jerry coaches the boys and girls high school and middle school teams at Canterbury.

Please have your child wear gym or tennis shoes, and bring a tennis racquet and water bottle.
