Canterbury was founded by parents with a vision for education, and meeting that vision is a goal today’s parents still embrace. As an independent school, Canterbury relies on its parents to support the school’s mission and efforts. Parents are a vital and vigorous part of our community, and they are warmly welcomed.
Parent involvement at school is directly related to a student's academic success. We make it easy to get involved by offering a variety of activities, field trips, events and volunteer opportunities. And, we make it easy to get to know other parents. New families have a variety of resources to help with the transition to a new school. Current parents reconnect with each other and meet new parents during grade level gatherings held each fall. Special orientations are held at the school for new students and parents. All parents are invited to Back-to-School Night.
Special events are planned throughout the year including the Fall Family Picnic, Family Fun Run/Walk, Grandparents' Day, All School Hoopla, and the Laughing Cavalier.
Grandparents are invited to spend time at the school, too. School plays have special "grand dress rehearsals." In November grandparents have the opportunity to attend classes with their grandchildren, experiencing first-hand our college preparatory education. We also have ways for grandparents who live out of town to stay connected with their younger grandchildren through the Lower School Hand-in-Hand program. And, grandparents make great volunteers.
