Two Boys' Cross Country Runners Headed to Regionals

Caleb Walda ‘24

Years at Canterbury: 12

Other sports/activities: Track

Favorite thing about running Cross Country:
I have no single favorite thing about Cross Country. I love to race and to hang out with my teammates, but I also find it rewarding to work hard towards a goal knowing that I might not see the results I want for a couple weeks. This appreciation for delayed gratification has assisted me in all areas of my life.

How long have you been a runner?
I have been running since fifth grade.

What are your expectations for regionals?
At Regionals I plan to break/set the school 5k record and to move on to Semi-State.

What is your most memorable Cross Country moment so far?
My favorite memory from this season has to be the first time I ran with a full team of Cavaliers at Dekalb the last week of August. I had never before had the privilege of competing alongside a full cross country team of five, and I was surprised by how well my teammates and I worked together. We even managed to beat a couple of other high schools in the region at the same meet.

Years at Canterbury: 1

Other sports/activities:
Basketball last year, Track and field, I am part of the equestrian team also and I will be doing swimming this winter.

Favorite thing about running Cross Country:
The team, because I really like the teammates as they are not only good runners but also good persons.

How long have you been a runner?
I started running last year for Track and Field but I have always been really active.

What are your expectations for regionals?
This year I don't have a lot of expectations for regionals, as this is my first time running XC, but my goal is to have a good day.

What is your most memorable Cross Country moment so far?
My most memorable XC moment was Sectional because I actually  thought that I would not go to Regionals, I thought going sub 18 mins was going to be hard, but the race felt great and I qualified.
