Canterbury Students Set New Records at Regional Scholastic Art & Writing Awards
Canterbury School students earned a record-setting 34 art awards and 107 writing awards at the 2026 Regional Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, marking the most total awards—and the highest number of Gold Keys—in school history.
Students received 30 Gold Keys, 59 Silver Keys, and 52 Honorable Mentions, surpassing previous school records for both overall recognition and top-tier honors. All Gold Key works advance to the National Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, with national recipients to be announced March 25.
“This year’s Scholastic Awards results reflect the depth of talent and commitment within our student body and the extraordinary support of our faculty,” said Trevor Campbell, Director of Visual Arts at Canterbury School. “Setting a new record for total awards—and earning our highest number of Gold Keys—speaks to the creative culture our students are building every day.”
In addition to visual arts recognition, Canterbury students earned significant distinction for their writing across a wide range of genres, including poetry, short fiction, personal essays and memoirs, critical essays, journalism, and long-form narrative work. Students from both the High School and Middle School received Gold Keys, Silver Keys, and Honorable Mentions, reflecting strong analytical thinking, originality, and voice.
"What a phenomenal year for Scholastic writing at Canterbury!" said Zachary Gardner, English Department Chair. "We broke 100 awarded entries for the first time in school history to earn more than a quarter of the region's total writing awards. Such notable success affirms the strength of our students’ voices and the work happening in our classrooms."
Among this year’s standout achievements, Canterbury students earned two American Visions awards, the highest “best-of-show” honors given at the regional level. Brooklynn Deane, ‘27, was named an American Visions recipient for her work Together in Solitude, while Jocelyn Roth, ’28, received an American Visions award for The Gaze of Resilience. The American Visions Awards represent the region’s most exceptional student work, with one nominee ultimately advancing to receive the national American Visions Medal.
Student artwork and writing will be featured in a public exhibition at the Fort Wayne Museum of Art, on view February 14 through April 12.
