
Canterbury Robotics Team Wins International Premier Competition
Canterbury School's robotics team, random(), achieved a remarkable accomplishment this spring, capturing the overall championship at the Michiana Premier Event, one of the most competitive FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) tournaments of the season.
The invitation-only event brought together 96 elite robotics teams from around the world, many of which had recently competed at national championship events. Teams traveled to Indiana from across the United States, including Alaska, California, Florida, and Illinois, as well as six countries, including Romania, Israel, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates, and Brazil. The event's international field has earned it the reputation of being a "mini worlds" competition within the FTC community.
After a strong performance in qualification matches, Canterbury's team was selected by the No. 1 seed in its division, ICE Robotics of Bloomington, Indiana, to join its alliance. The partnership was a familiar one; the two teams had previously competed together earlier in the season and won that tournament as alliance partners.
Their success continued at the Michiana Premier Event.
The alliance advanced through the tournament and ultimately captured not only the division championship but also the overall event title. The winning alliance also included MetaInfinity from Chicago, creating a powerhouse team that rose above one of the strongest fields of competition in the world.
The championship marks one of the most significant achievements in the history of Canterbury's robotics program. Team members earned medals, trophies, and championship banners in recognition of their accomplishment.
Beyond the competition itself, students had the opportunity to meet and collaborate with peers from across the globe, sharing ideas, experiences, and a passion for engineering and innovation.
The victory serves as a fitting culmination to an outstanding season and reflects the dedication, teamwork, and technical expertise of Canterbury's student engineers. Competing against some of the best robotics teams in the world, random() demonstrated that Canterbury students can excel on an international stage.
