Canterbury High School Student Earns National Speech & Debate Award

Canterbury High School is proud to announce that senior Amanda Heck has been named a recipient of the prestigious Academic All American Award from the National Speech & Debate Association (NSDA), one of the highest honors awarded to student members nationwide.

Presented to fewer than one percent of more than 141,000 student members each year, the Academic All American Award recognizes students who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in academics, competitive speech and debate, and personal excellence. This distinction places Amanda among the top student competitors across the country.
To qualify for this honor, students must complete at least five semesters of high school, earn the degree of Superior Distinction in the NSDA Honor Society (750 or more merit points), meet rigorous GPA and/or test score criteria, and demonstrate exemplary character and leadership .

The National Speech & Debate Association commended both Heck and Canterbury’s Speech and Debate program for their dedication to excellence. Speech and debate participation helps students develop advanced communication skills, improve reading and writing abilities, strengthen critical thinking, and build confidence—preparing them for college, career, and life beyond high school.
