Putting Canterbury in Your Will

Benefits

  • You are making a significant and valuable commitment to Canterbury School's future without any effect on your current income and without giving up any control over your assets.
  • Your estate receives an estate tax deduction for the full amount of your bequest with no upper limit.
  • You can direct your bequest to the purpose that is most meaningful to you.
  • You can change the terms and amount of your bequest if you financial or personal circumstances change in the future.

How to put Canterbury School into Your Will
You can contact your attorney to draft a new will (or add a codicil to your current will) including us as a beneficiary to your will. There are four principal ways you can include us in your will:

  1. Specific Bequest: You can give a specific amount or a specific asset: "I leave $25,000 to Canterbury School."
  2. Percent Bequest: "I leave 30% of my estate to each of my three children and 10% to Canterbury School.
  3. Residual Bequest: "I leave what is left (or a percentage of what is left) after all my specific bequests and debts are taken care of to Canterbury School."
  4. Contingent Bequest: "If my husband does not survive or is unable to receive my assets or disclaims this bequest, I direct that it be paid to Canterbury School."

To make it quick and easy for you to begin writing your will, we've partnered with our friends at FreeWill, who have developed an intuitive, online will-writing tool that is entirely fee and typically takes no more than 25 minutes from start to finish.
