As we prepare to return to on-campus instruction this Thursday (12/3), Canterbury is issuing the following updates and guidance in order to ensure the safest possible environment for our Cavaliers. Please review the bullet points below and reach out if you have any questions: - If a student is excluded from campus due to COVID-related protocol, parents must communicate with the school's nursing staff (nurse@canterburyschool.org) and provide documentation, including COVID test results and/or doctor's notes before sending the student back to school.
- Covington School Nurse (Tammy Eilers & Kim Steffy) number: 260-435-5525
- High School Nurse (Karyssa Bolen) number: 260-435-5526
- Student/staff who has COVID symptoms without known exposure to a positive person:
- Required to either be out of school for 10 days, cleared by their primary care physician, or provide documentation of a negative COVID test.
- Siblings or family members of a symptomatic individual may also be excluded from campus and subject to the requirements above (at the discretion of the school's nursing staff).
- If a COVID test is pending, all siblings and/or faculty/staff must remain out of school until the results are submitted to the nurse.
- Student/staff who has COVID symptoms with known contact to a positive person:
- Tests positive: can return after isolating for 10 days since symptoms began and have been fever free for 24 hours without medication, and have overall improvement of symptoms.
- Tests negative: can return once they complete the 14-day quarantine period.
- The family members of the symptomatic individual will be excluded from campus until the symptomatic individual receives a negative COVID test.
- Student/staff who has NO symptoms, but are a close contact of a known COVID positive case:
- Must quarantine 14 days from the last date of contact with the known positive case.
- Per the ISDH, if you opt to get tested, it is recommended to wait 5-7 days after possible exposure for a more accurate result, sooner if the individual becomes symptomatic. For testing site locations please click link here.
- A negative test does not change your quarantine timeline.
- Families agree to abide by the guidelines put forth by the Allen County Department of Health (ACDH) in respect to social gatherings, events, and mask-wearing. When the county is defined as a "red zone," social gatherings and events are limited to 25 individuals with proper social distancing and mask-wearing.
- If a student is participating in outside activities that involve high risk contact where social distancing cannot be maintained, we highly recommend that the student takes advantage of our remote learning option.
