Dear Canterbury Community,

As a result of extensive contact tracing efforts throughout the day, we learned of an increased number of Canterbury students and employees who will have to abide by a 14-day quarantine due to possible exposure to COVID-19. We remain steadfast in our commitments to keep our community safe and to maintain the curriculum promised to our Canterbury families. It is because of those commitments we have decided to pursue the following measures:

High School Division

  • Will continue in-person instruction.
  • On-campus extracurricular programs will continue, but will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Middle School Division

  • Will begin remote learning on Monday, November 9 through Friday, November 20, with a return to in-person instruction on Monday, November 30.
  • Pick up of materials will be Monday, November 9.
  • Extracurricular programs will be postponed until Monday, November 30.

Lower School Division

  • Kindergarten will begin remote learning on Tuesday, November 10 through Thursday, November 19, with a return to in-person instruction on Friday, November 20.
  • Kindergarten can pick up materials on Monday, November 9.
  • Grades 1 - 4 will continue in-person instruction. Bus, food service, and enrichment will continue.

Early Childhood Division

  • Will continue in-person instruction.

We acknowledge that this change may present logistical challenges to families with students learning both remotely and in-person for the next two weeks. Families who wish to move their child to remote learning for any reason, please contact your division director as soon as possible. All Canterbury families will receive more information about material pick-up, remote schedules, and more from their division director.

The campus will remain open and administrative offices will continue on-campus operations, unless otherwise noted by the supervisor. There will be no classes on Friday, November 13, as previously scheduled.

We sincerely hoped to remain open during the entirety of the 2020-21 school year, and have made this decision after careful consideration of the case numbers on campus. Our current plan is to fully return to campus on November 30th, although we will extend an option for families who wish to continue with remote learning after Thanksgiving. In the coming days, we will issue updates on travel advisories for the holiday season, as well as on any other programming that may be affected by our partial move to remote learning.

Thank you for all of your support of Canterbury. Together, and as one family, we will make it through this moment and emerge even stronger as a community.

Cordially,

David Jackson
Head of School
