Dear Canterbury Community,

Over the course of the past four weeks, our Pandemic Health and Wellness Committee has been hard at work devising plans for a return to school in August. I am happy to officially announce that Canterbury will open its doors to all students (ages 2-grade 12) on August 26th. I am deeply appreciative of the committee (whose names are attached) for their thoughtful deliberations over the past month and want to thank Mr. Ottenweller for his guidance and leadership as he has chaired the committee process. Canterbury will release a detailed plan for a return to school by the third week of July. This plan will include measures for safeguarding the health of students, school staff, and our parent community. We are committed to on campus instruction this school year but will also craft continuity plans for those who are not ready to return to a physical learning environment.

While COVID-19 continues to present a myriad of challenges, I know that the Canterbury community is poised to overcome them together. This spring saw a mobilization of our faculty and staff to deliver remote instruction amidst unprecedented circumstances. While many of you have praised the responsiveness of Canterbury in this moment, I readily admit that the traditional richness of the Canterbury experience was encumbered by the Coronavirus. In recognition of this, Canterbury will offer a complimentary summer program for any student enrolled at the school this past year. For those students in the class of 2020, we will extend this to their own children should we be so blessed for them to attend Canterbury one day.

I am looking forward to releasing our return to campus plan within the next few weeks, but more than anything I am excited to see students back at Canterbury in August.

Warmly,

David Jackson
