An Early Childhood student and son of a Canterbury alum watches and listens to his teacher, Ms. Parker, recite a story. Hello from Canterbury School!
We hope you and your loved ones are staying safe, healthy, and connected during this difficult time.
As we have all experienced, the COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted our lives in ways we could not have anticipated. But while Canterbury's campus may be closed, our community continues on. We continue to support one another, to take care of each other, and to band together as one because at Canterbury, we are stronger together.
The Canterbury School community has demonstrated and continues to demonstrate incredible resilience and support as we navigate and respond to this situation: - Canterbury teachers and leadership came together to launch an educational continuity plan across all divisions, creating an extensive remote learning plan for our students. Canterbury remains one of only a handful of schools that offers remote learning in our region, for students aged 2 through Grade 12.
- The technology department worked tirelessly to support every teacher, student and division as the school shifted our education from the classroom to the computer, optimizing a variety of platforms such as Moodle, YouTube, Zoom and Google Classroom.
- The enrollment team launched a virtual admissions experience, including a suite of virtual visit and engagement opportunities for prospective families to discover Canterbury School.
- Some of our alumni, who have returned home from college, are supporting current Canterbury families and friends by providing childcare.
- Canterbury's partnership with the Bowen Center now allows for free counseling services, over the phone, effective immediately to our students.
- Our Lower School students, in collaboration with Green Tree Plastics, completed a collection of over 600 pounds of bottle caps which will create two Buddy Benches on our campus. Read more here.
- Trivia Night, scheduled to take place in the middle school gym on April 18, has been turned into a virtual event, taking place every Saturday night in April at 7:00 p.m. EST. We invite you to join us!
- An outpouring of messages of support for the Class of 2020 has flooded our inboxes and social media channels. We continue to work to support our seniors as best we can. We invite you to experience our front porch photo sessions being offered for seniors and their families.
- Teachers are keeping spirits high with virtual social connection and creativity. For example, advisory and Chapels will still be conducted virtually and the faculty composed a Cabin Fever video that was showcased on local news channels!
We know there will be many more marks of resilience to come from our school community.
In addition to our students, parents, faculty and staff, we all can take great pride in seeing how a Canterbury education has prepared our alumni to lead the charge in response to this crisis in such amazing ways. We have heard heroic stories from Canterbury alumni who are directly caring for the increasing number of COVID-19 patients. We have also witnessed alumni leadership within small and large businesses, restaurants, non-profit organizations, and more! I know you will join us in applauding all of our alumni across the world who are demonstrating incredible resilience and unwavering determination during this difficult time.
We know there will be more challenges in front of us, ones we will face and overcome together. We must remain steadfast in support of our students, faculty, parents, alumni and supporters, as we continue to lead with integrity in all things.
Stay safe and well, Jessica Morales Director of Advancement Canterbury School |
