Dear Canterbury Community,
As we continue to monitor the development of COVID-19 globally, nationally, and locally, it is important to keep our parents abreast of how this information impacts other aspects of our school community. In particular, there are many questions circulating currently regarding travel – especially as Spring Break is upon us in two short weeks. We can provide the following updates, as of today: - The Grade 2 Sugarbush trip, planned for this coming Friday, March 13, will proceed as planned.
- The Grade 4 trip to the Indiana State House, scheduled for Friday, March 13, will be postponed, pending more information about the development of COVID-19.
- The High School trip to Spain, planned for Spring Break, will also be postponed, pending more information.
- The High School trip to Nashville, TN, scheduled after Spring Break, will also be postponed, pending more information.
- The High School trip to Chicago, scheduled for late April, is "on hold" as we continue to monitor local conditions.
- The High School trips to Stratford, Ontario, and the Dominican Republic, scheduled for May Term, are currently "on hold" as we continue to monitor global conditions.
We have had several questions about the possibility of school closure. We will, of course, follow the recommendation of the Allen County Health Department should this decision become necessary, and communicate all pertinent details to you at that time. Canterbury School continues to monitor news and alerts from the Center for Disease Control (CDC), Indiana Department of Health, and the Allen County Department of Health to help us determine how best to remain proactive as the extent of COVID-19 evolves. A team composed of our three Division Directors, the Director of Advancement, the Business Manager, the School Nurse, and me is meeting weekly to discuss this situation, and communicating with each other daily as we receive information from a variety of sources, to determine how best to move forward for the benefit of the safety of our school community. We have created a special webpage to aggregate all pertinent information as a helpful resource for our community at www.canterburyschool.org/covid19. Sincerely, Bill Ennist Head of School Canterbury School |
