CANTERBURY THIS WEEK January 19, 2018 | Issue 8 Canterbury Kids: Handwriting Without Tears
When the Canterbury Kids (2's classes) rehearse the Tap Tap song for their Angel Band debut (watch the video), they actually are learning basic skills of handwriting. Tap Tap, Mat Man, Magna Doodle, and shaping blocks are tools the Canterbury Kids teachers use with the 2-year-olds in the beginning stages of handwriting. They focus on the ability to follow directions, developing hand-eye coordination, and recognizing shapes and letters. The teachers receive special training in the Handwriting Without Tears curriculum. While today's video focuses on the Canterbury Kids experience, the curriculum advances as students' handwriting skills progress through Cavaliers, Junior Kindergarten, and Kindergarten Prep.
