Dear Canterbury Community,
Last Thursday, the Indiana Department of Health (IDOH) issued an update regarding COVID-19 guidelines. In the update, the IDOH announced the cessation of contact tracing and quarantining recommendations in schools. Transmission rates for COVID-19 have dropped precipitously over the past two weeks across Allen County and here at school. Given this news, coupled with high vaccination rates within our community, Canterbury will transition to a mask-optional policy for all students, staff, and visitors on Monday, February 28th. Many will choose to continue masking, and we will support them in that decision. Many will also choose not to do so, and we will support them in that decision, as well.
Over the past two years, we have lived through a global pandemic that forced us to innovate, sacrifice, and rally as a community. I am proud of the work that we have done together, and look forward to a great finish to the school year. While COVID-19 is not over, it is time to transition to an endemic reality that allows each family to make a choice regarding masks and other mitigation measures.
Personally, I want to thank the Canterbury community for all of your support. Although there has never been universal agreement on how to best respond to the pandemic, a deep and abiding love for Canterbury School has guided every conversation surrounding it. For that, I am very grateful. As always, please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions.
Warmly,
David Jackson
Head of School
