Canterbury Scholars Program

Canterbury School is proud to offer two opportunities for applicants to receive merit scholarships.

The Canterbury Scholar Challenge is for rising Grade 7 applicants and the Canterbury Scholar Competition is for rising Grade 9 applicants. The next and final date to complete the exam is Nov. 19, 2019 to be considered for the Scholar Program. In addition, all corresponding materials must be submitted and completed by the Priority Admissions Deadline: Jan. 17, 2020. Please review the information below and follow the instructions as listed.

Canterbury Scholar Program Information

Rising Grade 7 (2020-21)

The Middle School Scholar Challenge is an opportunity for area sixth graders to compete for scholarships to attend Canterbury Middle School beginning in their seventh grade year.

As many as eight scholarships of $2,000 annually ($4,000 for Canterbury Middle School) will be awarded toward tuition.

Students competing in the Canterbury Scholars Competition will complete a standardized test and written essay on one of two test dates, October 12 or November 19. All participating students and their parents are welcome to schedule a conference to review test results.

While Grade 6 students are testing, parents are welcome to attend an information session to learn more about Canterbury School's college preparatory curriculum, athletic and fine arts opportunities and extracurricular programs. Tours will also be available during all scheduled test dates.

Students interested in participating in this merit scholarship opportunity must complete the steps listed below:

  • Complete of an online K-12 Application (for students new to Canterbury School only.)
    • Receipt of recommendations and transcripts as required by the application are required.
    • Please visit here to apply.
  • Standardized Admissions Test and Written Essay
    • To be taken during one of two test dates, October 12 (9-11 a.m.) or November 19 (6-8 p.m.)
    • Please visit here to register.
  • Visit day at Canterbury School
    • Individual visits to Canterbury High School will be scheduled for students new to Canterbury School after the K-12 application has been received. For current Grade 6 students, visit days will be scheduled during October and November.
  • Interview with the Middle School Admissions Director or  Middle School Director
    • All interviews will occur during the October visit day.

As many as ten scholarships of $2,000 annually ($8,000 total for Canterbury High School) will be awarded toward tuition in this special opportunity.

Students competing in the Canterbury Scholars Competition will complete a standardized test and written essay on one of two test dates, October 12 or November 19. All participating students and their parents are welcome to schedule a conference to review test results.

Students must take the admissions exam on either October 12 or November 19 to be considered for Canterbury Scholar. Pre-registration is required.
