Extended Care & Enrichment Programs

Canterbury’s Enrichment and Extended Care Programs offer additional educational and social programs to complement a student’s school day schedule.

Extended Day

This service is available Monday through Thursday, from 7 to 8 a.m. and 3 to 6 p.m., and Thursdays from 3 to 5:30 p.m., in the EDC room. The program offers supervised recreation and quiet study, as well as nutritious afternoon snacks. Third- and fourth-grade students participate in a 30-minute supervised, quiet homework session.

After School Enrichment

This service offers after-school sessions. Each session lasts one month, and new sessions are introduced each month. If registration is open, current parents can register students via Campbrain.

BALLIN' WITH THE BROWNS

Mondays (April 9, 16, 23, 30; May 7, 14, 21)
3:30 to 4:15 p.m.
Grades 1-4

Have fun learning fundamental basketball drills! Students will improve in the areas of dribbling, passing, shooting, defense and teamwork. Join this class and become a better ball handler.

BATON

Thursdays (April 12, 26, May 3, 10, 17, 24)

Have you noticed some of the girls on the playground twirling baton? Does that look like something you would be interested in? Whether you are a beginner, or an experienced twirler, you will enjoy meeting with this group to learn the basics of baton twirling. For those who have already taken the class, join again and brush up on your skills, learn new moves, and work in small groups to make your own moves and routines. If you need a baton, an additional charge of $30 will be collected at the first meeting and orders will be placed. The baton is yours to keep.

CHINESE AND ASIAN CRAFTS

Are you wanting to learn how to speak Chinese? Join us in Chinese Enrichment, which will teach you new Chinese words in each class. We will have fun activities, such as playing Chinese games, making Chinese crafts, practicing Origami and enjoying Chinese snacks. Come join the fun!

CHRISTY'S CRAFTS

Spring is in the air! Butterflies, bumblebees, birds, ladybugs and flowers... If you like these things – along with painting and crafting – then this is the class for you. Join Mrs. Myers and friends as we enjoy saying goodbye to winter and hello to spring.

FUN WITH FRENCH

Come learn more French with Madame Widmer, as we practice new words, play French games, learn songs and enjoy French snacks. We will have time for projects we can’t do during French class, and we’ll have fun with special French activities.

GAMES GALORE

Do you wish you could extend recess just a bit more each day? Do you love getting out on the playground and playing your favorite games with your friends? How about learning some new games? If this sounds like you, then you will want to join us after school each Tuesday, when we get together to play some games from years past (Dodge Ball, Soccer, Knock Out and many more) or learn some new games (Pickle Ball, Foursquare, Rainy Day Fun). We will focus on teamwork, good sportsmanship and – most of all – fun!

LEGO CLUB

Wednesdays (April 11, 18, 25; May 2, 9, 16, 23)

Design! Create! Build! Engineer! Use LEGOS to make jets, spaceships, tractors or sports cars that will expand your imagination in play. We also have Alien Conquest, World Racers, Pirates of the Caribbean, LEGO Friends and many more! Take home your very own small LEGO set on the last day.

PRIVATE PIANO LESSONS

Piano instruction, especially in the early years of life, has been shown to improve academic performance, raise self-esteem, increase coordination and improve concentration. Plus, it’s fun! Each lesson is tailored to the individual student, based on age, skill level and interest.

Evan Keenan is our returning piano teacher. He is a graduate of IPFW with a degree in Piano Performance. Email tlewis@canterburyschool.org to schedule a time.

  • All piano students must have a piano or keyboard at home.
  • If you are a new student, please purchase Piano Adventures Primer Level Lesson Book. The book may be purchased at Sweetwater.

SPRING DANCE

Spring Dance is a jazz/hip hop dance which is fun, energetic and you dance to great music. Dancers will be excited to be part of the entertainment at the Spring Luncheon and to participate in a Chapel Performance.

  • Chapel Performance: May 31 in the NOG at 8:15 a.m.

YOGA FOR KIDS

This yoga class is for children with various abilities. We will practice breathing techniques to calm, energize and balance the nervous system. We will also practice flowing sequences, challenging poses and deep relaxation to refresh ourselves from the long school day. Please bring your own yoga mat or towel.

ZUMBA KIDS

Join the party! This class is a rockin’ high-energy dance party with kid-friendly choreography. Zumba Kids helps develop a healthy lifestyle, while making fitness fun. Additionally, we will spend 5 minutes each session discussing how to make healthy food choices. Bring your smiles and energy!
