Awards & Honors

Student honors include the Faculty Prize, Deans’ Award, and Distinguished Progress. Award winners and commendations appear on transcripts. A student may receive these awards once before Grade 12. Each spring up to 20 percent of the senior class and 10 percent of the junior class may hold membership in the Cum Laude Society.

Grading and Reporting Policies

The high school curriculum consists of courses that, with few exceptions, are taught at the honors, advanced, Advanced Placement, or college level.  Student transcripts reflect a weighted GPA based on the following scale:

  • Advanced Placement (AP) and college-level (CL) courses: 1.2
  • Advanced (AD) courses: 1.1
  • Honors (H) courses: 1.05
  • All other (R) courses: 1.0

Highest possible grade is an A. Canterbury does not compute class rank. Canterbury reports grades on an A-F scale and does not use A+.

Canterbury School complies with all best practices articulated in NACAC's Guide to Ethical Practice in College Admission.
