Early Childhood Carpool              

One morning or afternoon per week
Assist students during arrival and dismissal from cars to Early Childhood entrance. Sign up for a quarter, or the whole year. 


Carpool

Assist students during arrival from cars to the Lower/Middle School entrances. Sign up for a quarter, or the whole year. Volunteers usually help at least one time each week.

Friends of the Faculty    

Donate food and snacks for conference days, faculty education days and other special days as needed; assist with the Faculty/Staff Recognition Luncheon in June.

Hearing and Vision Screening    

Assist the school nurse as needed.

Lunchroom    

One lunch shift, every third week (Lower School lunch is served from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.)
Serve food, collect money and clean tables, one lunch shift, every third week. This is a fun way to meet new people and see your child during the school day.        

Plant, Flower and Vegetable Show  (September 7, 2011)    

Help set-up display area or help with tear down. Students tour the show in the NOG all day.    

Health Emphasis Week  (September 26-30, 2011)    

Provide healthy snacks for students as they learn about the importance of exercise and nutrition.

Jingle Bell Boutique (December 6, 2011)    

Wrap gifts during designated wrapping days (November 11 and others), set-up or work sale day. Help students shop for the holidays and pick out gifts for their loved ones.

Sock Hop (February 3, 2012)    

Be on the planning committee, help decorate or help during this ’50s themed event that includes a dance and hula hoop contest. Both the kids and their parents are invited to dress in '50s attire for this fabulous night of rock -n- roll that takes place in the Middle School gym.

Dads’ Breakfast (February 1, 2012)    

Help with set up or serve breakfast to the students and their dads at this special event. Set up may take place the afternoon before the event.

Lower School Musical  (1 p.m. May 16-18, 2012)

There are many ways in which you can volunteer: assist with costumes, sell tickets, do make-up, take photo orders, be a grade representative. We need lots of help for this production of 250 cast members including for dress rehearsal, photo day and the grandparent performance.

Visual Arts Exhibit (May 29-31, 2012)    

Mat artwork, hang artwork and help with set up or tear down. You'll help the art teachers transform the Middle School gym into an amazing gallery filled with hundreds of sculptures, paintings and artwork. Volunteers will mat artwork prior to May 24 and hang artwork prior to May 29.

Field Day (June 4, 2012)    

Help staff games outdoors as the students learn teamwork and bond with this fun end-of year activity.

Science Fair (February 15, 2012)

General help and set up for the science fair which includes more than 100 exhibits that are judged throughout the school day (students in grades 4, 7-8 required to participate). See the young scientists in action!

Dads’ Spaghetti Supper (February 15, 2012)

Help with set up or serve supper to the students and their dads at this special event held in the Middle School cafeteria.

Touch of Class Luncheon (February 14, 2012)

Set up or tear down and help serve at this special luncheon for all Middle School students. This is a great way meet other parents and to see the students all gussied up in suits and dresses for the school day.

Visual Arts Exhibit (May 29-31, 2012)

Set up or tear down; help the art teachers transform the Middle School gym into an art gallery.
Mat student artwork prior to May 24. Hang student artwork prior to May 29.

Writers' Conference

Chaperone

Assist teachers in supervising a special event, party or trip.

House Activities (ongoing)

Assist in planning a house trip or activity.

Friends of the Faculty

Donate food for conference days and faculty education days; assist with the Faculty/Staff Recognition Luncheon in June.

Dad’s Breakfast (February 23, 2012)

Help with set up or serve breakfast to the students and their dads at this special event. You might even snap a special photo of your student with dad. (Set-up may be the afternoon prior to the event.)

 

Cavalier Clothing Company

Take a shift at the booth helping with spirit wear and physical education clothing orders and sales at Back-to-School Nights, conference days and other events through the school year. It is a great way to see what the newest spirit wear items are and to meet a lot of parents

Lili’s Garden

This colorful garden is located outside the Early Childhood area and plays an important part in the outdoor exploration of the students. Help is needed with weeding, mulching and plant care.

Assist the Librarian

Love books? Volunteer by assisting the librarians in the Lower, Middle or High School libraries.

MORE DETAILS: Lower School library volunteers are needed to assist with classes. Volunteers check books in and out, assist students with book location and shelve books. Volunteer for a couple of hours once a week. Grandparents welcome!

Assist in the School Offices

The school offices and the admission/development and publications office can use help answering the phones, with mailings and other projects as needed.  

The Canterbury Fund (fall)   

Help is needed in the development office during this annual giving campaign, including making phone calls in the fall or helping with mailings throughout the year.

Fall Family Picnic (September 17, 2011)

Set during a day full of High School sports activities during homecoming weekend, the picnic is a great place to meet families from all school divisions. Help is needed with set-up and staffing.

Fall Clean-up (October 1, 2011)

This is a great way for the entire family to pitch in and help with outdoor projects around the school. Bring your own hammer, shovel, gloves and rake.

Canterbury Scholar and Malone Scholars Competitions (October 1, 2011)

Current area eighth graders compete for merit scholarships for High School. Volunteers will greet students and their parents, help with set up, clean up or serve light refreshments. (Current eighth-grade parents are exempt from this opportunity).

Family Fun Run/Walk (October 8, 2011)

This event helps participants feel healthier while at the same time helping with the issue of hunger in our community through donations of canned food. Help is needed with set-up and staffing for this huge community event that benefits the Associated Churches Food Bank. 

Thanksgiving Feast (November 18, 2011)

The Thanksgiving Feast is an amazing yearly tradition of bonding among the students and teachers as all school divisions mix together at the Covington campus to form 30 unique families. They create skits, make-up turkey calls and work on a service project. Volunteers are needed to help with cutting pies, delivering them to the classrooms and with serving. Volunteers may then watch the extremely creative Thanksgiving Day skits and turkey calls...if you have not volunteered for this event before, don't miss out. It is the only way as a parent you will see it, and it is truly unique. Don't forget to bring your own pie server.

Grandparents’ Day

(November 21, 2010, for Middle or High School)
(November 22, 2010, for Lower School)

Help organize, be a greeter, or clean-up for this wonderful day when grandparents get to go to school with their grandchildren...and they don't just observe. You might even see a grandparent taking a test! 

Plant Sales Fundraiser (December or May)

Parents don't have to go far to find some beautiful plants. And the purchase benefits activities at the High School. Help is needed with ordering, sorting and labeling plants for distribution. Pick-up is usually in the Middle School.

Laughing Cavalier (January 21, 2012)

Volunteers are needed throughout the year to help plan this elegant fundraiser which features dinner, auctions, dancing, friendship and fun. Help with planning, soliciting auction items or set-up/tear down.

5th Grade Scholar Challenge! (February 11, 2012)

Help with set-up, serve light refreshments and greet the fifth-grade students and their parents at the Middle School for this merit-based scholarship opportunity. All area fifth graders are invited to take the challenge.

Summer Camp Fair  (March 4, 2012)

Help is needed with planning, coordinating volunteers, set up or staffing this annual community event. Area families have the opportunity to speak directly with more than 30 camp representatives from Indiana and surrounding states. The event takes place in the Middle School gym from noon to 3 p.m. Volunteers will have plenty of time to explore each camp represented, too.

Spring Book Fair (April 17-19, 2012)

It's a marketplace of books, artwork and culture that the whole school and the community enjoys. Volunteers are needed in October/November to help select the books, games and activity kits that will be sold during the book fair. Volunteers also are needed to decorate, help with set up, tear down and staffing the sale in April.

More Details:  Each spring Canterbury holds a wonderful book fair for our families and the community. Volunteers help select the hundreds of books, activities and games sold at the fair.  Individuals interested in being on the selection committee for the 2012 Spring Book Fair are invited to a meeting in late September (TBA). You will learn more about the book fair at this meeting, and all categories of books will be assigned. Categories are divided by grade level and types of books, such as historical fiction, sports, easy readers, etc.

Big Dig Garage Sale (May 4-5, 2012)

This is the Parent Association’s biggest fundraiser for the school. Help is needed throughout the school year on collection days. Help on moving day, sort and price items the week leading up to the sale or work the sale days. Be in the know about what great finds are at the sale.

Cavalier Open (May 21, 2012)

An 18-hole Florida scramble and tailgate are the focus of this event which supports Canterbury School athletics in every division. Other events such as the Mini Cav Open, (held May 20) a family putting tournament, also need volunteers. Help with organizing the event, mailings, prizes or sponsorships and meet a lot of people along the way.

Spring Luncheon (May 31, 2012)

Each spring parents, grandparents and friends are invited to a special luncheon celebrating the arts at Canterbury School. Volunteers are needed to help with set up and to staff the luncheon, which takes place in the transformed Middle School gym during the Visual Arts Exhibit highlighting Lower and Middle School artwork and the Children's Choir.
