Volunteer Opportunities

  • PIANO – Do you enjoy playing the piano? We occasionally need a piano player for morning chapels.  
  • LIBRARY – Would you like to help in the Lower School library? We can always use someone to check books in and to help shelve and arrange the books.   
  • MYSTERY READER – Is your grandchild a second grader? Throughout the year special guests come to the second-grade classrooms and read a book to the class. Each week’s Mystery Reader is always a surprise and often brings a treat.   
  • MUSICAL COSTUMES – Are you creative? Do you like to sew? Are you handy with a glue gun? Many hands and many talents are needed to help with the costumes for the spring musical.  
  • SECOND-GRADE QUILTING – At the end of the Williamsburg unit each second grader will have helped create a quilt that becomes a family heirloom. Many experienced hands are needed to help young hands cut and sew.  
  • RECORDING STUDIO – Throughout the year volunteers sit with first and second grade students to record their individual reading sessions.  
  • OFFICE SUBSTITUTE – We look for volunteers who would like to occasionally help in the office during an absence, primarily answering the phone.  
  • SEWING – If you like to sew, many classes have projects that involve costumes and some limited sewing.  
  • FOREIGN LANGUAGE – Please let us know if you would enjoy participating in one of our cultural chapels. The students love hearing and learning about other countries and their cultures.  


    • There are many ways to help. Please contact your grandchild’s teacher directly to volunteer. Thank you.

     

    Grandparents

    Grandparents play an important part of school life at Canterbury. As a grandparent, we want you to feel connected to the school and we want you to be a part of your grandchild's school experience. Not only do we hold special dedicated days just for you each fall in all four divisions, but we welcome and invite you with open arms to the book fair, musicals and special events.

    Or perhaps you are in town and want to have lunch in the cafeteria with your first grade grandchild...be our guest!

    Throughout the year Canterbury School offers special events for grandparents and special friends. Grandparents are sent a letter and calendar of events in the fall and special reminder postcards throughout the year. Following are the remaining events for this year.
