What are the benefits of purchasing hot lunch?

Lunches include fruits and vegetables that students often omit if purchasing ala carte.
Seconds are available for students who are still hungry and have eaten their entrée and eaten all or taken a “No Thank You Bite” of the fruits and vegetables.

What is available for seconds?

Peanut butter sandwiches, soup, or more of the entrée, if available.
Seconds are also available on fruits and vegetables.

What if I don’t like the main entrée?

Substitutions are available.
Lower school may substitute a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, a cheese sandwich, lunchmeat sandwich, or a cup of soup.
Middle school may, in addition, substitute a side salad with meat on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, or a bagel and some form of protein (cream cheese, yogurt, peanut butter, string cheese, cheese cubes) on any day.
High school students have a wider variety of substitutions, including sandwiches and salads.

What is a pizza card?

A pizza card allows students who do not get hot lunch to purchase slices of pizza on pizza day only.
Pizza is served the first school day of each week. Pizza starts on Monday, August 24.
Hungry Howie’s and Papa John’s pizza will be served this year.
Pizza may be purchased yearly or the four-payment plan. Pizza may also be purchased ala carte but this does not guarantee availability.

What is a snack card?

Middle School and High School students have a mid-morning break when they can purchase items.
Lower School students do not have a break in the cafeteria.
All students may use snack cards at lunchtime to supplement a lunch brought from home or one purchased at school.

How may snack cards be purchased?

Use the same form as you do when ordering hot lunch, with the same discounts in effect. High School or Middle School students who wish to split the use of their card between break and lunch should indicate the amount wanted on each card.

What kinds of snacks are available?

25¢ - milk, juice, fresh veggies, cream cheese, peanut butter, pretzels, goldfish, fruit snacks.
50¢ - bagel, cereal, hard boiled eggs, mini muffins, small water, yogurt, juices, string cheese, cheese cubes, ice cream, prepackaged cookies, fresh baked cookies, assorted crackers, cottage cheese, fruit cups
75¢ - small soup, chips
$1 - large water, peanut butter sandwich, cheese sandwich on bread
$1.25 – large vitamin and flavored waters – grades 5-12 only.
$1.50 - large soup

Does the lunchroom accept cash?

Yes, students may purchase snacks, milk, ala carte items or lunch using cash. We, however, do not accept foreign currency.

How are payments made?

Please make checks payable to Canterbury School (separate from tuition).
Fill out a form for each student.
Yearly or four-payment plan payments should be delivered or sent to the business office by the due date(s).
Weekly payments should be turned in to the lunchroom no later than Friday before the serving week.

What happens if a student forgets lunch?

A substitute lunch may be charged.
A substitute lunch consists of a peanut butter or cheese sandwich, a small soup, some fruit, and milk or juice.
The cost is $2.50 and payment is expected the next day.
Regular lunches may not be charged.

Does the lunchroom take charges?

There will be no “charging” (IOUs) for drinks, regular lunches or snacks. The only item that should be charged is the substitute lunch.

Are there refunds for unused lunch and snack cards?

Prepaid lunches/snacks cannot be refunded.
Hopefully the discounts offered will more than make up for any missed days.
Extended absences due to illness will be considered.
