Seniors Ready for Sectional

Canterbury's Girls' Soccer is preparing for the IHSAA Soccer Sectional, their first match being Thursday, October 7 at 7 p.m. They will play the winner of the Woodlan vs. South Adams game. If the Cavs win, they'll play in the Sectional Championship on Saturday, October 9. All games are at Blackhawk Christian.

Canterbury's Avery Biggs, Olivia Hamilton, and Lena Reelsen are three seniors who are excited to play in their final Canterbury Soccer Sectional.

Avery Biggs '22

Avery Biggs has been a Canterbury student for 16 years. She also runs track, writes for the student newspaper, and is involved with Student Ambassadors and REDgen.

Favorite thing about Canterbury soccer:
"My favorite part about playing on the Canterbury team is how small it is. It really allows me to become close with each of my teammates and each of us can feel like we are part of a family."

Expectations for rest of season:
"My expectations for the rest of the season are that we continue to grow as a team.  It was challenging at the beginning of the season, seeing as we are a largely underclassmen team, but I have seen us grow together this past month and it has been really exciting to me.  I hope that we can continue to strengthen our technical skills and our communication skills."

Favorite Canterbury sports memory:
"My favorite Canterbury sports memory was my freshman year when Sophie Terrell scored the game winning goal at our sectional final game.  We all ran out and hugged Sophie and it was really fulfilling for me to see us come together as a team and celebrate together. I am going to miss making memories with these girls that I can now call my family, but it makes me happy knowing that I will carry these memories with me throughout the rest of my life.  A huge thank you to Canterbury athletics."

Olivia Hamilton '22

Olivia Hamilton has been a Cavalier for 16 years and is also a member of the girls' basketball team and track team. She writes for the school newspaper, is a member of REDgen, Student Ambassadors, Service Committee, Campus Life, and is the Smith House Leader.

Favorite thing about Canterbury soccer:
"My favorite thing about playing on the Canterbury team is the level of bonding between the upper and underclassmen. I have formed great relationships with my teammates in other grade levels that would never have formed if I wasn't on the soccer team."

Expectations for rest of season:
"My expectations for the rest of the season is for me, and everyone on the team to give their all. This is our last time playing, and I want to end the season, knowing I am proud of what we have accomplished as a team. I also want everyone to have a positive attitude and just have a fun as we finish the season."

Favorite Canterbury sports memory:
"My favorite Canterbury sports memory is winning sectionals freshman year. It was so thrilling; we went into overtime, and ended in penalty kicks. Watching the winning penalty kick go in and everyone on the team running out to celebrate is a memory I will never forget. Everything we had worked for that season paid off, and the excitement in everyone's faces was unforgettable."

Lena Reelsen '22

Lena Reelsen started her Canterbury career in Grade 8. She also plays basketball and is on the track team.

Favorite thing about Canterbury soccer:
"
I enjoy how close all of the girls on the team are and how well we work together."

Expectations for rest of season:
"
I expect us to keep playing our game and I think once we get into the sectionals we will play really well and be successful."

Expectations for rest of season:
"One of my favorite Canterbury sports memories is going to the boys' state games and getting to watch my brother play in the games back to back years."
