Canterbury Middle School student Brooke Lawson certainly loves the artist part of Canterbury's "Artist, Athlete, Scholar." She's been able to develop her talent as a student at Canterbury, and we caught up with her to learn more about her experience. Lawson has been a student at Canterbury since she was three years old.

What do you love about art class?
Brooke: I love how we get to work on our art at our own pace and hang out with our friends as we're doing it.

What is your favorite medium and why?
Brooke: I like all kinds of art, but I think painting and clay are the most fun! With clay, you get to make something unique that you can always keep!

Who is one of your favorite artists and why?
Brooke: I like Bob Ross a lot because he made beautiful paintings of nature and is so relaxing and calm.

What you like about your art teacher, Mrs. Kirkland?
Brooke: Mrs. Kirkland is really nice and relaxed. Whenever I make a mistake in my art, I freak out about it, but she is always calm and helps me find a way to incorporate it into my final piece.

What other activities and hobbies do you enjoy?
Brooke: I love doing sports like volleyball, soccer, and golf. I also like to sing and play the flute.

What is your favorite thing about being a student at Canterbury?
Brooke: My favorite thing about being a student at Canterbury is the teachers. They are all really nice and help me with anything I need. I also like how we have advisory time, so that we can spend time with our friends and have a break in the day.
