It was an unprecedented finish for a truly unprecedented season. We were a much smaller team than in years past, but these small but mighty teams swam for the best sectional finishes in my 14 years of coaching. Coach Stronczek and I could not be more proud of this group of amazing humans!

What an outstanding performance from our five female swimmers who made finals and combined to earn enough points to earn a 7th place finish! All three relays earned top 8 finishes ((200 medley: Emma, Abby, Alexus, and Katian; 7th), 200 Free (Emma, Abby, Kristina and Alexus; 8th) and (400 free; Emma, Katian, Kristina and Alexus; 6th), our two seniors (Kristina and Emma) earned spots back in their individual event (Kristina 200 Free: 16th and Emma 200 IM 12th). Alexus Bohnke became the first Canterbury female swimmer (in my 14 year coaching history) to earn a top 8 finish in each of her events (3 relays and 500 free 8th)! Julianna Kummer earned a 2nd alternate position in her 200 Free and Abby Westropp earned a 2nd alternate position in her 100 breaststroke.

Our four male swimmers who made finals combined to achieve a 7th place finish—just 11 points behind 6th and 13 behind 5th!  All three relays composed of seniors Aaron Koa, Max Heisler, Josh Kummer and sophomore Jack Najdeski placed in the top 8 200 medley 6th; 200 free 4th and 400 free 6th.  Our three seniors placed in the top 8 in their individual events (Aaron Koa 8th 100 breastroke; Max Heisler 8th 100 fly; Josh Kummer 8th 100 free). Jack Najdeski placed 11th in his 50 free style.  First year swimmer Andrew Habig qualified as first alternate in the 50 free!!

More exciting news is that Aaron Koa was the WPTA Scholar Athlete of the Week! Watch his interview here.
