Assistant Speech Coach Remembered

Canterbury Reports
April 28, 2021

With a heavy heart, Canterbury School would like to announce the passing of Carol Anders, our assistant speech coach who has worked with the team since 2018. Anders was a National Speech and Debate Association Diamond Coach and was inducted into the Indiana High School Forensic Association Hall of Fame.

Speech coach Linda Alt said the team will miss Anders' advice, not only for competition events but her advice about the challenges that life presents and what could be learned from them.

"She was so kind to everyone and very generous with her time, volunteering to work with students when it was convenient for them and judging tournaments even on her weekends off," Alt said. "She truly loved speech and debate and believed that all students, regardless of experience and skill, can benefit from the activity."

Anders passed away on April 25. She graduated from Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne and spent more than 30 years as a Speech and Debate coach. She was well-known in state and national speech circles.

The Canterbury community is grateful for the incredible service Anders provided to the speech and debate team.

"She was not only a colleague, she was also a very dear friend," Alt said.
