2008 Cavalier Golf Open

It might have been a little chilly...but the sun was out. On Monday, May 19, more than 100 players teed off for a great day of golf at Chestnut Hills – blue skies, a cool breeze and only a few balls lost in the rough. Play began with a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. and the teams finished at 5:30 p.m. in time for the tailgate party and door prizes.
Blu Spoon Catering provided both lunch and dinner with tailgate appetizers from Hartley’s and Opus 24.

When the final accounting was completed, almost $30,000 was raised for Canterbury athletics. These funds will be put to good use across all grade levels to buy much-needed athletics equipment and supplies and to help underwrite professional development for the coaches and athletics staff.
Many thanks to all the co-chairs, volunteers, participants, sponsors and donors who made this event a great success.

The Cavalier Golf Open is the school’s single fundraiser for our athletics program. Funds from this event are used for major equipment purchases not covered in the annual budget (scoreboards and bleachers, for example) and help underwrite training and professional development opportunities for our coaches.

If you were not able to participate in this year's Cavalier Golf Open, you can still help the athletics department fulfill its Wish List...

Each year the athletics department puts together a “Wish List” of supplies and materials across the school that are needed in addition to what the annual budget allows. With more than 80 perent of Middle School and High School students participating in Canterbury athletics and all students participating in physical education, this support touches each student in some way. Please contact Myrna Morgan at 260-436-8786 or

mmorgan@canterburyschool.org

for more information. “Thanks in Advance” from the athletics department and all of our student-athletes.

The athletics program at Canterbury has come a long way. In 1978 our first “home” games were played on the YWCA field and our first High School soccer team included seventh and eighth-graders to fill the squad with only 10 jerseys among the 15 players.
Today, more than 80 percent of Canterbury students compete athletically. Our school fields more than 50 teams in 11 different sports with students filling literally hundreds of roster spots throughout the fall, winter and spring seasons.
