News Item Coaches vs. Cancer results
The annual All School Hoopla was Saturday, January 12, from 5-6:30 p.m. A chili and hot dog supper was served and then families helped cheer on Canterbury's boys and girls JV and varsity basketball teams as they play Lakewood Park Christian. This year's Hoopla benefited Coaches vs. Cancer. All gate receipts were donated to this charity at the end of the evening, totaling $2,270.
News Item Canterbury vs. Australia
It’s basketball, mate: Get set to cheer as the HSE Bandicoots and Emus from Australia take on the Canterbury Cavaliers in an annual continental challenge on Monday, December 10. Games begin at 6 p.m. with junior varsity playing first and then varsity at 7:30 p.m. The Australian students will stay with host families from Canterbury High School during their visit to Fort Wayne. They will visit classes the morning of December 10. Families of the Australian players may listen to a live broadcast of the game by going to www.canterburyschool.org/sportsblog.
News Item Christmas Concert Dec. 2
Please join us for a Canterbury Christmas at Trinity Episcopal Church, 611 West Berry Street. This holiday concert will take place Sunday, December 2, at 4 p.m. Admission for adults is $5, children are free. The music of the season will be performed by guest soprano soloist, Amy Prickett and the Canterbury Children’s Choir. Join us in the Great Hall for a reception immediately following the performances. Concert proceeds benefit the Music at Canterbury Fund, which provides the opportunity for Canterbury students to work and perform with professional musicians.

News Item Fall Concert Nov. 13
The High School will hold a Fall Concert at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 13 in Summers Auditorium, 3210 Smith Road. This free performance features the Jazz Band, Women's and Men's Choirs, and the Orchestra.
News Item Chess Tournament Nov. 10
Canterbury School’s Chess Club will host the 2007 Indiana State K-12 Chess Championship on Saturday, November 10, at the High School campus, 3210 Smith Rd. Matches will begin around 9:15 a.m. All Kindergarten through Grade 12 Indiana students, including home-schooled students, have the opportunity to participate. More than 200 students have signed up for this year’s event. Students will compete by grade level in 13 divisions. The first-place winners in grades K-12 will receive $100 savings bonds. Second-place winners receive $75 savings bonds, and third-place winners receive $50 savings bonds. The champions in grades K-12 will one-year Indiana State Chess Association memberships. In addition, more than 100 trophies will be awarded. All players are current members of the U.S. Chess Federation. This event is sanctioned by ISCA in cooperation with Scholastic Chess of Indiana.

The High School theatre production of "Romeo & Juliet" will be held at 7:30 p.m. on November 2 and 3 in Summers Auditorium, 3210 Smith Road. Tickets will be available at the door: $8/adults, $5/students, age 5 and under free.

News Item Spring Luncheon 5/29
Canterbury School will holds its annual Spring Luncheon on Thursday, May 29, in the 5601 Covington Road Middle School gymnasium, which will be transformed into an art gallery showcasing student work. Doors open at 11 a.m. to tour the gallery. Lunch will be served at noon. The cost is $20 per person.
News Item Big Dig Garage Sale 5/3
Canterbury School's parent association is hosting its annual community garage sale, the Big Dig, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, in the Middle School, 5601 Covington Rd. If you love to garage sale, you won't want to miss this one. Collections for this massive sale have been ongoing throughout the school year. The sale fills the Middle School gym and beyond. Finds include furniture, appliances, fashion, books, CDs, dishes, toys and much, much more. Proceeds support programs in all divisions at this independent, not-for-profit school. All items remaining at the end of the sale are donated to community organizations serving those in need.
News Item Parent Education Series
The next Parent Education Series is on “Technology at Canterbury” and takes place Tuesday, February 12 at the following times: Lower School 6:30 p.m.; Middle School 6:30 p.m.; and High School 7:30 p.m. Remember when dry erase boards were innovative? Not any more. Now SMART Boards take the classroom to a whole new level. Don’t know what a SMART Board is? Come to technology Night and find out. There’s one in almost every classroom, and your children and their teachers use it. But SMART Boards are not the only advanced technology. Come to Technology Night to see the rest! Check out your child’s division or all divisions to see what is new. Remember to tour the Middle School gym which will be full of Lower and Middle School Science Fair projects. Technology at Canterbury is more than learning how to type on a computer keyboard. It is key to a 21st century education. We are finding ways to connect advances in technology and programs to our students’ every day learning. Come and see what your children are growing up with and how it is becoming integrated into almost every aspect of the curriculum. Their school experience includes SMART Boards, robotics, Power Point, digital photography and movies, word processing, computer graphics, music composition, Web casts, e-mail, layout and design, programming, Internet research, Web site design and a whole lot more.
News Item Canned Food Drive
What does 30,000 pounds of food look like? Canterbury School students are finding out first hand as they helped unload, stack and sort food October 1-5 in preparation for delivery to the Associated Churches Food Bank on October 8. The Middle School hosts this community service project and brings in the bulk of the food. Students in the Lower and High Schools also participated.
News Item Religion at Canterbury
The community is invited to join us for the first program in the Canterbury Parent Education Series, "Religion at Canterbury." This event will take place Wednesday, September 19 at 7:30 p.m. in the Canterbury High School Summers Auditorium, 3210 Smith Road. This informative presentation will cover how Canterbury handles religion and teaches tolerance and diversity in the global world we live in today. Speakers include: Ramona Fisher, Lower and Middle School religion teacher, and Scott Zvers, High School religion teacher. This is a free presentation, no RSVP necessary.
News Item Homecoming Sept. 22
Homecoming festivities will be underway at Canterbury School on Saturday, September 22. Open Houses, Fall Family Picnic, Soccer Games make for a fun day. Ten alumni athletes will be honored as part of the Inaugural Athletics Hall of Fame.
News Item FW Kids Marathon
The Fort Wayne Kids’ Marathon is an incremental running program designed to help kids at any fitness level in kindergarten through eighth grade run or walk a marathon distance over several weeks. Each child will cover the distance in 1- to 3-mile increments at his or her own pace, finishing with a 1.2-mile run at the 14th annual Canterbury School Family Fun Run and Walk/Tin Can 5K on September 29.

News Item Lady Cavs-State Champs!
It was an amazing day Saturday, March 1 as Canterbury fans either gathered at Conseco Fieldhouse, tuned in to the radio, or watched the game on TV or via live Web casting. Fans, students and parents were proud that the Lady Cavs made it to the state finals. And they were elated when it became evident the Lady Cavs would win the state championship. Congratulations, team. Go Lady Cavs!
News Item Camp Fair March 2008
About 160 families and 42 camps were on hand at the 19th annual Summer Camp Discoveries Fair, located at Canterbury High School on March 2. This event helps parents plan a summer’s worth of fun and activities in one afternoon. The camps and summer programs were located in one place to answer questions and to share information. Many of the camps had activities for kids to do at the camp fair. Plus there were door prizes and popcorn. Camps and summer programs are available for all budgets, and for kids and teens of all ages from 2 all the way up through high school.

News Item Congrats Canterbury Scholars
Canterbury School is pleased to announce the 2007 Canterbury Scholars. The Canterbury Scholar Competition is a chance for all area eighth graders to compete for scholarships toward Canterbury’s exceptional college-prep education. More than 75 eighth graders from area schools vied for $4,000 merit scholarships to Canterbury High School in last fall’s annual competition.
News Item Scholastic Art Winners
Sarah Savage, Maria Kirkland and Vicki Junk-Wright wish to congratulate all the students who entered the Scholastic Art Competition. In this region more than 1,700 entries competed. Canterbury secured several regional awards and also has several Gold Keys going on to compete nationally.
News Item Senior Recognition Night
Boys’ Basketball will be on February 23 at Canterbury. Recognition will be prior to the varsity game with a start time of 7:30 p.m. Start time for the game could be affected if the JV games ends early, so you will want to come early.

The Canterbury chapter of Cum Laude held a breakfast in honor of new inductees and their families on April 25. Students inducted include seniors Elena Aleksandrova, Sasha Bachwich, Matt Fisher, Laurel Hochstetler, Shona Lee, You Won Park, Sara Powell and Hunter Schouweiler, and juniors Brian Argus, Kelly Fallon, Christian Kraegel, Scott Nill, Joshua Pan, Christopher Pease, Ronnye Rutledge, Molly Wilson and Hyerim Yoo. Seniors Lyla Fisher, Patrick Hackler, Erin Kelly, Anya Kutsenok, Stephanie Trenkner, Emily Tsai, and Margaret Wilson, who were inducted last year as juniors, also participated in the ceremony.
News Item Groundbreaking & Construction
Canterbury School held a ceremonial all-school groundbreaking as part of A Legacy for Learning, the campaign for Canterbury. The groundbreaking took place on May 17 on the High School campus, 3210 Smith Rd. The groundbreaking marks an exciting time in the schools 29 year history for its students, faculty, families and friends.

News Item Cheer on Nathan Jackson
Canterbury senior and Midget AA Komet goalie Nathan Jackson has been on the ice since preschool. He has also done two years of community service coaching younger goalies and has worked as a referee for house league games. At 9:30 p.m. on February 8, Nathan's team will play Detroit’s Belle Tire in league playoffs at McMillen Ice Arena in Fort Wayne. Fans are welcome and appreciated; there is no charge for parking, admission or a great time. Nathan will be wrapping up his high school hockey career on March 7-9 during the State Tournament in Indianapolis.

News Item Kicks & Giggles Soccer
Canterbury School offers soccer on Sundays via the Kicks & Giggles Soccer Program Looking for a great way to develop your children’s soccer skills? Canterbury School will host the 2008 Kicks & Giggles Soccer Program on Sundays from February 17 through March 9 for children in Kindergarten through Grade 4. Canterbury soccer coaches will teach basic technical skills through a variety of fun and engaging games. Each day will end with a small-sided (3 vs. 3 or 4 vs. 4) style scrimmage. Kicks & Giggles takes place in the Canterbury Middle School Gymnasium located at 5601 Covington Rd., Fort Wayne. Kindergarten – Grade 2 will meet on Sundays from noon – 1 p.m. and Grades 3 – 4 will meet from 1:15 – 2:15 p.m. The cost for the program is $30 per player.
