Dress Code Policy

 

NOTE: For the upcoming 2008-09 school year,
 grades 7-8 follow this dress code policy.

For the 2009-10 school year, Grade 7 will be included in the uniform dress code policy with grades 5-6



Grades 7-8

Boys

  • Slacks
  • Dress shorts; may be no more than 4 inches above the knee
  • Dress shirts (button down), knit shirts (polo/golf style) or turtlenecks; all shirts must have full fold-over collars and be tucked in during school hours
  • Turtleneck or mock-turtleneck sweaters
  • V-neck, crew neck or cardigan sweaters with a collared shirt (no hoods)
  • Sweatshirts with a collared shirt (no hoods)       
  • Shoes or sneakers (no sandals, open-toed or backless shoes)         


Girls

  • Slacks
  • Skirts, dresses, jumpers, or capris; may be no more than 4 inches above the knee; collars on dresses are not required
  • Dress shorts; may be no more than 4 inches above the knee
  • Dress shirts (button down), knit shirts (polo/golf style) or turtlenecks; all   shirts must have full fold-over collars and be tucked in during school hours
  • Turtleneck or mock-turtleneck sweaters
  • V-neck, crew neck, or cardigan sweaters with a collared shirt (no hoods)
  • Sweatshirts with a collared shirt (no hoods)           
  • Shoes or sneakers (no sandals, clogs, platform, open toed or backless shoes)


WEDNESDAY IS "SCHOOL DRESS"

  • At Canterbury Wednesdays are special, so the “school dress” is navy bottoms and white tops for all students. This consists of navy blue slacks or shorts with a white shirt for boys, and navy blue slacks, capris, skirt, jumper or shorts with a white blouse for girls. Canterbury sweatshirts or white or navy sweaters may be worn with a white collared shirt as school dress.
  • Students may be asked to wear school dress on other designated days (such as days they go on field trips or visits as well as on special occasions).



INAPPROPRIATE DRESS

What Not to Wear?


The following are considered inappropriate dress: sundresses or spaghetti strap dresses; shorts, dresses, jumpers or skirts shorter than appropriate length; athletic shorts; blue jeans; sweatpants or warm-up suits; tank tops; any shirts without fold-over collars; T-shirts or athletic jerseys, including those worn over collared shirts; sweaters that are not V-neck, crew neck or cardigan style; hooded sweatshirts or sweaters; sandals; clogs; platform, open-toed or backless shoes; apparel that does not cover the midriff or undergarments; jean jackets; athletic jackets, including fleece jackets; and hats or headware of any type. Outdoor coats or jackets should not be worn inside; rather, students should wear an appropriate sweater or sweatshirt.

 


UNIFORM FOR PHYSICAL EDUCATION


  • Every student must have a PE uniform consisting of a Canterbury T-shirt, athletics shorts (shorts may not be more than 4 inches above the knee), white athletics socks and gym shoes (no platform sneakers).
  • In colder months, students are expected to have sweatshirts and pants.


CAVALIER CLOTHING COMPANY


  • The Canterbury Parent Association operates a bookstore (located outside the Lower/Middle School cafeteria/gallery) as a service to  Canterbury families.  Canterbury logo wear is available here.
  • The bookstore hours will be announced in the Canterbury newsletter. Items will be available for sale at many of the beginning of the school year functions.
