Community Service

C anterbury believes in the benefits of volunteering within a community. To support this belief, community service is expected of all students in various ways at different grade levels.

 

Cavalier Helper

Fourth graders rotate throughout the year as Cavalier Helpers in the lunchroom. They help students during all the Lower School lunch periods, helping to direct students, making sure they walk, helping student with food requests and helping the parent volunteers.  

School Sponsored Projects

Throughout the year the Lower School participates in many ways to help area agencies. We give of our time by helping to sort food at the food bank or filling backpacks for the Blessing in a Backpack program. We give of our resources by doing extra chores and making a donation to help children in Bangladesh, we give of our talents by writing a letter or creating a bookmark that will be enjoyed by students or families outside our school. Following are projects the students are involved with this school year:

  • Adams Elementary: book collection
  • All God's Children (Bangladesh): penny collection 
  • ASPCA: collect items for pets
  • Associated Churches: canned food collection
  • Associated Churches: Grade 4 sorts food
  • Boys & Girls Club: school supplies
  • Boys & Girls Club: visit the center
  • Boys & Girls Club: toiletries/educational games
  • Fairfield Elementary: make Thanksgiving bookmarks for the students
  • Habitat for Humanity: can collection
  • Haiti earthquake: more than $500 collected
  • Kate's Kart: book collection
  • Study School: socks and underwear collection
  • Study School: children's coat collection
  • Study School: toiletries/educational games
  • Turnstone: visit the center
  • Turnstone: school supplies
  • Wellspring: hats, gloves, socks, coats
  • Wellspring: Grade 3 visits center
