MIDDLE SCHOOL COMPETES IN FIRST HOUSE GAMES

Sitting on the bleachers on the Middle School soccer field, a team of purple clad students steadily worked on folding lavender paper. One student gave directions to the rest of the pack until each was holding a paper airplane. Another group of students decked out in orange sat in the grass carefully folding peach paper to make their aircraft. First, the purple team climbed to the top of the bleachers and one by one each student flew his or her creation. Lavender paper planes landed softly in the grass: some taking a perfect nose-dive, while others floated gently in the breeze amid cheers from a crowd of fellow students. Then the orange team flew their planes, hoping the peach paper would land farther than the lavender. The top three airplanes to out fly the rest earn points for their teams. This was just one of the many activities set up for the first annual Middle School House Games. "The purpose of the House Fall Games is to build an immediate sense of spirit and camaraderie among students," explained Ben Ottenweller, MS director. The House program is new for the Middle School this year. "The mission of the CHAMPs House Program is to focus on three pillars: Spirit, Service and Leadership," said Mr. Ottenweller. You'll be hearing more about the program as house-related activities happen this school year. The Middle School Houses are each named after Fort Wayne landmarks, and the students from each house will be involved with those landmarks. They are the Maumee House, St. Joe House, St. Mary's House, Rockhill House, Foster House and Headwaters House. Cavs senior stays positive through injuries, illness

FORT WAYNE – Over the past four years, Maddie Devlin could’ve gotten down or aggravated. No one would have blamed her. There were plenty of reasons to justify any negative feelings. But with assistance from teammates, family and the Canterbury girls soccer coaches, the senior midfielder has remained positive during a time when the setbacks were mounting.
