A Distinctive Middle School

 Our Middle School allows students to make a transition to greater independence and responsibility in each grade while supported by a strong school network of advisors, faculty and parents. Classes are scheduled and designed to facilitate interdepartmental projects and activities. Teachers work together to discuss student progress and help establish learning programs. In addition to the core curriculum of language arts, social studies, mathematics and science, students continue a broad program of foreign language, physical education and fine arts.

The Middle School provides an environment in which each student will develop a strong academic background and a sense of ethical and social responsibility. Students learn to communicate effectively and appropriately orally, in writing and through the fine arts, and they are encouraged to participate in activities to explore and develop interests and talents. Comprehensive instruction teaches Middle School students to demonstrate positive social skills and manners, to employ computer technology across the curriculum and to persevere to reach their goals.

• In addition to French or Spanish, seventh graders can participate in a two-year sequence of Latin, during which they study grammar and culture. National studies have linked Latin instruction to higher test scores, stronger English grammar skills and better preparation for science courses.
• Students have the opportunity to develop cognitive and fine arts skills playing cello, viola or violin in the Middle School orchestra.
  
• Technology initiatives include use of a SMART Board, a combination projector-computer-chalkboard-art palette.
  
• Advanced geometry and science classes can manipulate text, shapes, illustrations and video to demonstrate concepts and offer engaging visual learning.
