There will be a short meeting on Thursday, May 24 at 3:30 p.m. in the Gates Lecture Hall for those interested in being part of the HS cross country team. The meeting will cover the voluntary summer practice conditioning schedule as well as other training related topics. If you are interested, but cannot attend the meeting, please contact Coach Ardington at 260-438-2165 or Coach Ervin at the High School.
Baseball sectionals are hosted by Canterbury School for IHSAA. Because it is a tournament game, fans from all schools will pay admission of $8 for a season ticket or $5 per game. Following is the schedule for now (watch for updates on the on the online HS athletics calendar)...it changes depending on the weather:
WANE-TV - FORT WAYNE - No. 14 Canterbury edged Homestead 3-2 on Thursday to advance to the sectional championship in girls tennis. The Cavaliers will face SAC champion Bishop Luers at 5 p.m. on Friday for the title. Luers beat Wayne 5-0 on Thursday. Canterbury's no. 1 player Leah Barnes dominated, winning 6-0, 6-1. No. 2 player Paige Bixler won 6-4, 6-4. Canterbury also won at no. 3 singles while Homestead won both doubles matches.
Middle School athletes were recognized at a special event last week that ended with an ice cream social. Senior Davis Rao was the keynote speaker. In recognition of good sportsmanship, at the end of a season each MS coach selects one member of each class represented on that team as a sportsmanship nominee. At the MS Athletics Recognition, Grade 8 students who have received multiple nominations for the Frank J. Gray Sportsmanship Award receive a certificate of commendation. This award was named for Coach Frank Gray, longtime (20+ years) Canterbury Middle School soccer coach. In recognition of good sportsmanship over the course of an entire career at Canterbury Middle School, one eighth-grade boy and one eighth-grade girl will be named as winners of the Frank J. Gray Sportsmanship Award and will receive a plaque at the MS end-of-year Moving Up/Awards program. Congratulations to the following eighth-grade students honored:
