Q. What is Canterbury School looking for in applicants?

A. We are seeking individuals with strong characters, intellectual curiosity, proven academic aptitude, extracurricular talents and a diversity of backgrounds, interests and life experiences.


Q. Does Canterbury offer financial aid?

A. Yes, Canterbury offers financial aid to students in Kindergarten through Grade 12. During the 2007-2008 school year, more than $900,000 was awarded to approximately 23 percent of the student body.


Q. How many students are enrolled at Canterbury School?

A. Overall in 2007-2008 there are 913 students enrolled.

Early Childhood: 149           Lower School: 244 

Middle School: 218              High School: 302


Q. How many students are in each class?

A. In our Lower School, there are three classrooms of 16-18 students in each grade level. At the Middle School, there are three sections of 15-19 students in each grade level. At the High School, there are five sections of 15-19 students in each grade level, with exceptions based on best placement decisions.


Q. How diverse is the student body?

A. Canterbury is committed to diversity of every kind. Ours is a community in which we enjoy a diversity of races and ethnicities, socioeconomic backgrounds and individual talents, interests and experiences.


Q. What languages are offered?

A. Canterbury offers a full curriculum in French and Spanish. Latin and Japanese are offered two of four years in Middle School and two of four years in High School.


Q. What opportunities are available in the fine arts?

A. Fine arts is an integral part of our academic program. All Lower School students take drama, chess, art and music. Middle School offerings include visual art, choral music, band, orchestra, dance, Shakespeare and speech. High School students may choose to participate in the women’s choir, men’s a cappella choir, jazz band, chamber orchestra, theater, photography, studio art, computer art or speech.


Q. What sports are offered at Canterbury School?

A. In the Middle School (grades 5-8) we offer girls volleyball, girls and boys soccer, tennis, cross country, basketball, cheerleading and golf. The High School offers all of the above as well as track, softball, baseball and swimming.


Q. Is there an opportunity for community service?

A. Yes, in all divisions! The Early Childhood, Lower and Middle Schools organize the collection of items for a variety of local agencies and organizations. The High School has a community service requirement of at least 60 hours during a student’s sophomore and junior years.


Q. What transportation does Canterbury offer?

A. Canterbury offers bus service to most of the greater Fort Wayne region. There is a fee for this service.


Q. What percent of your graduating class attends a college or university?

A. 100 percent.
