Canterbury Scholar Competition

The Canterbury Scholar Competition is an opportunity for area eighth graders to compete for scholarships to attend Canterbury High School beginning in their freshman year.

As many as 10 Canterbury Scholars will be awarded $8,000 merit scholarships, $2,000 for each of the four years they attend Canterbury High School. This scholarship money can be used in conjunction with financial aid, which Canterbury strives to provide to all qualified students.

The morning of the Canterbury Scholar Competition, students will take part in a standardized test and write an essay. All participating students and their parents will have the opportunity to schedule a conference to review the results. While the eighth graders are testing, their parents will attend an informational session explaining what to look forward to at Canterbury High School. Each participant will schedule a day to return to Canterbury to attend classes with a Canterbury freshman and interview with school representatives.

The next Canterbury Scholars Competition will be held October 3, 2015.

Malone Scholars Program

Canterbury School was selected in May 2009 by the Malone Family Foundation to receive a $2 million endowment for the funding of educational opportunities for academically talented and motivated students whose families demonstrate financial need. The amount of the award varies according to the financial need documented by the student’s family.

Founded by Dr. John C. Malone of Colorado, the Malone Family Foundation’s primary goal is to provide scholarship funding at the secondary level for students who are at the 95 percent or above of their classes, have the desire and drive to maximize their potential, but have limited financial resources to attend independent schools.

5th Grade Scholar Challenge!

Area fifth graders are invited to test their academic skills. As many as eight $6,000 ($2,000 per year) scholarships are available toward Canterbury’s Middle School for grades 6-8. Awardees may use their scholarships in addition to financial aid they may be eligible to receive.

The challenge day involves essay writing, reading comprehension and math testing for the fifth graders participating. Parents will learn more about Canterbury’s college preparatory curriculum as it applies to grades 6-8 via an informational meeting and a student guided tour. At a later date, students will also spend a school day on campus and interview with a school administrator. All parents will have the opportunity to discuss testing scores with a school administrator.

The next 5th Grade Scholar Challenge! will be held January 23, 2016.
