The advanced placement (AP) program of the College Board provides college-level courses to qualified high school students. Canterbury students are encouraged to take one or more AP courses, which lead to the AP exams in the spring. Students scoring above-average grades on the nationally administered AP exams are eligible to receive college credits and advanced standing. Canterbury students are required to take the AP exam that corresponds to their AP course in order to receive AP credit.
In May 2009, 127 students wrote 275 AP exams. Out of a possible score of 5, 94 percent earned 3 or higher; 70 percent earned schore of 4 or 5. Sixty of the 127 students were named AP Scholars.
The College Board recognizes individuals as AP Scholars for their exceptional achievement on the college-level AP exams taken each spring. Nationally, only 18 percent of high school students worldwide who take AP exams perform at a sufficiently high level to merit the recognition of AP Scholar.
